Radio Beethoven is a multiplatform media and the only radio station entirely devoted to classical music in Chile. The station, which has more than 40 years of history, was acquired in 2020 by the Catholic University. Since then, it has expanded its wings, adding not only new programs and voices, but also increasing its geographical presence. In fact, today it has signals in Santiago, Viña del Mar, Villarrica, Valdivia and Osorno; in addition, part of its programming is broadcast on the signals of regional state universities, thus achieving almost total coverage of the Chilean territory. It also formed the Club de Amigos de Radio Beethoven, which allows listeners to contribute, through a membership, to the financial sustainability of the station.
Friends UC has supported this project, which was conceived in the early 80’s by Adolfo Flores and the late director Fernando Rosas with an integrating conception of culture and classical music in particular. The station has maintained this imprint with the mission of being a gathering place with good music and culture, taking advantage of the capabilities and commitment of UC with the country, and collaborating to face the great challenges of our society.
