Center for Research on Abuse and Early Adversity, CUIDA
The Center for Research on Abuse and Early Adversity, CUIDA, aims to generate scientific evidence for the understanding and development of tools for prevention and intervention in the areas of abuse and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE), seeking to impact public policies and society in general around these issues.
CUIDA, which has been strongly supported by Friends UC, works autonomously with an inclusive approach, gender equality, respect for diversity, and together with rigorous ethical standards that govern research. CUIDA seeks to identify the structural, cultural, social and family aspects that cause abuse in childhood and adolescence, as well to identify policies and practices that promote the protection of children and the remediation of problems.
The objectives of CUIDA are:
- To develop basic and applied research in the field of adverse events and especially in sexual abuse in childhood, adolescence and vulnerable groups.
- To identify the effects of adverse events in childhood and adolescence on physical, mental and social health.
- Identify the social and institutional conditions that cause sexual abuse.
- Develop evidence-based tools and strategies to assist in the prevention, intervention and remediation of adverse events and sexual abuse in childhood and adolescence.
- Promote public policies and legislation that foster the well-being of children and the protection of vulnerable groups.
- Strengthen competencies and capacities of caregivers, family members and health or education professionals who work with children or vulnerable groups.
- To develop diagnostic tools for early adversity that do not involve secondary retraumatization.
