New Leading the Way grantees attend their first Friends Circle
December 2019
Excited and curious, full of questions and eager to start their experience in the United States. That was the general feeling of the students that won the 2020 Leading the Way (LTW) scholarship who attended the last Friends Circle of 2019, and who are about to travel to the US for a five-week study abroad program at Drexel University.
This activity, that was also attended by the President of Friends of Catholic University in Chile, Inc., Sava Thomas, and by its Secretary, Roger Thomas, as well as the director of English UC, Christopher MacGuire, had the purpose of reuniting former Leading the Way alumni with the new group, so that they could ask them questions about their experience and what they learned during those amazing five weeks.
Sava Thomas said that she was delighted to get to know the new group and to meet again with LTW alumni. She also invited all of the students to spread the word and let other people know about this life-changing experience. At the same time, she thanked the university for all the support it gives to this program.
During the meeting, the president of the LTW Officers, Thyare Pacheco, who studies Education, welcomed the new group, explained the activities the officers have planned for them and showed her gratitude to Friends UC and English UC for making the program happen.
The Leading the Way Program & Scholarships offers intensive English training to UC undergraduate students from vulnerable sectors of society, with a special focus on the American cultural context. The University is offering this training in cooperation with Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The first stage of the Leading the Way Program & Scholarships consists of local training in the English language lasting one semester and a half. The second stage offers the opportunity to study abroad at Drexel University for five weeks.
